GLC International

ENGLISH

Language Centre

 

 

The GLC International English Language programme.

The program components are reading, writing, listening and speaking, with emphasis on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. The GLC programme is designed to encourage language learning habits among the students through guided activities that challenge and improve the students’ individual abilities.

 

Activities will also incorporate audio, video and computer aids to enhance the learning and teaching process. Interactive participation such as workshop, drama, and visits are required of the participants. Students are also expected to use their own initiative to use the language outside the classroom.

 

GLC Program Objective:

Upon completion of this program, learners will be able to:

 

§ Function in various communicative contexts fluently using the appropriate language

 

§ Listen accurately and respond accordingly

 

§ Acquire essential micro reading skills and comprehension skills for the understanding of various text types

 

§ Write various formal and informal texts: letters, reports, descriptive texts, expository texts and argumentative texts

 

§ Use basic grammatical items in various communicative contexts

participate and communicate effectively in various social and academic contexts

 

Learning Outcomes: 

At the end of this program, learners will be able to achieve the following learning outcomes:

 

§ Listen and understand various texts in class and assessment

 

§ Apply listening skills in various social and academic contexts

 

§ Communicate fluently and confidently in delivering of speeches, discussions, 

   explanations, descriptions and other speaking activities

 

§ Apply essential micro reading skills in the overall comprehension of various

   texts types in class and assessment

 

§ Identify and differentiate the distinctive linguistic features of various text

 

§ Apply linguistic features of a specific text type in writing tasks and 

   assessment: letters, reports, descriptions, expositions and argumentations

 

§ Use correct grammar and appropriate vocabulary in various writing tasks and

   assessment

 

Synopsis:

This program is designed to help learners build their language competence and communicative skills in order to function effectively in the social and academic context. The program focuses on building learners’ language skills and proficiency.  This is done through the use of communicative tasks where essential language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing are taught separately while grammar and vocabulary are taught in context.  Topics of general and contemporary interest are used to encourage learners’ participation.
